Creepy Crawlies
From underwater adventures into the garden. This week we began our (democratically chosen) new theme… Insects and Spiders. Did you know not all insects are considered bugs? Neither did we until this week! Our major project ended up taking all week as it was a multi step process and we were distracted by challenge doing seeing as now we have to get a least half of them done to participate in Show and Tell, the absolute highlight of our week.
When we did work on our art, it was a messy business.
First we made lots of colorful blotches of paint on paper. The boys pretended it was bird poop.
Next we folded it over, smeared the paint with our hands, wiped away the seepage and opened it back up to reveal a beautiful butterfly.
Finally we cut it out, attached the head, thorax and abdomen and put them on display.
We did a lot of book reading and had a lot of discussions about the world of creepy crawlies. We also did our challenges, played games, and enjoyed each other’s company.
